Angeles Crest Highway. Southern California’s highest road traverses the mountains of the Angeles National Forest. It’s a pretty fun ride, especially if you’re sitting on two wheels. Daphne & Ken thought so too. These guys wanted to document part of their trip in Los Angeles, so they rode all the way up the ever-winding highway on their motorcycle for some mountainous portraits. As if the motorcycle, mountains, and forest wasn’t exciting enough… Ken drops a knee and proposes. Yes, she said yes, and it was so dang cool to have been a part of this milestone at the beginning of their adventure together. Congrats Daphne & Ken.
We said our farewells and started making our way back down the mountain. And then boom, the sky lit up like magic with oranges and blues and greens like I hadn’t seen before. I guess from all the nearby forest fires, the smoke filtered the sunset into an array of thick milky vibrance; you can almost hold the pigment in your hands (I wanted to bottle it up and save some for later). We pulled over and hoped so badly that Daphne & Ken would be taking our same route home (no cell service in these mountains). And score, we caught their attention as they cornered a turn and we were able to get one last frame in front of that painterly sky. High five, team.
